THE MOST READ CZECH POET, JIŘÍ ŽÁČEK, CELEBRATED A MILESTONE BIRTHDAY 

The popular Czech poet and writer, author of books for children and adults, primers for first graders, and children's encyclopedias for schoolchildren, celebrated his birthday on November 6 (1945). Jiří Žáček has managed to combine lyricism and humor in his work, making him one of the most widely read Czech writers. To date, he has published sixteen books for children and more than twenty collections of poetry. These include the poems Zpověď (Confession), which have been set to music and performed by leading artists on a double album accompanying the book. These unique songs, as well as poems, texts, and various reflections, will be performed during a special evening celebrating the author's anniversary on March 10, 2026, at the Prague Congress Center. 

Jiří Žáček has won numerous publishing awards, including five Golden Ribbons for best children's book, the Meritorious Artist Award (1987), the Ján Smrek Award (2011), the Medal of Merit (2015), and the František Hrubín Award (2021). He is also the author of thousands of aphorisms, which are unique in their humor, irony, exaggeration, and poetic imagination. Jiří Žáček is primarily a poet, and this is how he is perceived in the 21st century.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, a number of leading Czech performers will gather at the Prague Congress Center to wish Jiří Žáček a happy 80th birthday. They will sing live songs from the collection Zpověď (Confession), set to music by composer Karel Mařík, and also recite his texts. It will be a unique evening thanks to the positive thoughts, so many rare performers on one stage, and above all, you, dear audience.
